Green Day Perform New Songs at Last Minute Gig

WIRE IMAGE
About 300 of Green Day's fans were in for a treat on Thursday night. The band performed approximately 19 brand new songs at a not-so-secret gig at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesta, CA.

All cameras, recording devices and even cell phones were confiscated at the door. Green Day took the stage at 10 p.m. for a 90-minute set, opening with a new song, "Nuclear Family." Singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong claimed the song "could be better" and told the rest of the band, "let's do it again." And so they did--The second song was also "Nuclear Family." Armstrong, usually receptive to requests, told fans that the band would be playing "new shit only." The songs were so new that Armstrong read the lyrics from a piece of paper a times. Green Day later had a change of heart, as they ended the concert with hits "Welcome to Paradise," "St. Jimmy," "Minority" and more.

"Green Day performed 19 new straight-forward rock 'n roll songs," long-time fan DJ Rossstar, 29, said. "Almost every song had a 39/Smooth-esque solo. [Billie Joe's] voice sounded better than ever. So angelic."

The concert was announced Tuesday on Green Day's official website. Tickets were initially to be sold first come, first serve at the venue, but "due to an overwhelming response," the tickets were instead sold through an online pre-sale. All proceeds were donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
